Sony's considering expanding its functionality for PlayStation Remote Play, according to a new survey shared by one of its random recipients. The survey in question asks a range of questions about how people feel about certain potential PlayStation Remote Play features. One, in particular, is an exciting possibility. The question asks whether fans would find PlayStation Remote appealing on different devices appealing, including the AppleTV, Android TV, and more interestingly the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
According to Reddit user YouRedditHereFirst, Sony sent them a survey titled 'Give It to Us Straight.' The survey focused entirely on the PS4 Remote Play feature and hinted at a variety of interesting possibilities. Streaming to competing consoles like the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One could be the most interesting question, but others are compelling, too. For example, one question asked about streaming PS1 and PS2 games. Another asked about a Remote Play controller that's slim and portable just for on-the-go play.

It bears repeating that just because Sony is asking about prospective Remote Play features, it doesn't mean Sony is either working on them or even seriously considering them. All it says it that Sony is interested in how its current PS4 Remote Play users would feel about certain features. Using that information, Sony can better design or market the features it really is working on, as well as think about what comes next. But it's not common for survey questions to turn into supported features.
That said, there's certain to be some changes coming to PlayStation Remote Play with the transition to the next generation of consoles. Nothing has been said about the PS5 and its support of Remote Play up to this point. Yet if the survey is any indication, it's possible that Remote Play will receive an upgrade alongside all of the other major PS5 steps forward.
There's no doubt that Sony's Remote Play for the PS4 is a valuable feature. Sony released Remote Play support on iOS devices in May 2019 and then expanded to all Android 5.0 devices later in the year. It's unclear how many users actually take advantage of the PS4's Remote Play. It's likely less than many expect. But for those who do use it, it's likely a lifesaver. It's like having a handheld device like the Nintendo Switch, but for PlayStation games. Any expansion of the PlayStation Remote Play feature will be well-received.
